The book was written by one of the 12 disciples of Jesus named John. Along with Peter and James, John was a part of Jesus’ “inner circle”. These 3 men were the closest to Jesus.. John and his brother were known as the son of the Thunder”.
John was written between AD 85-60, after the destruction of Jerusalem (AD 70).
His purpose in writing was so that unbelievers would be born again and that believers would find security in their faith. John writes about the deity of Jesus more than the other 3 gospels. Over 90% of John’s gospel is unique and not found in the other 3 Gospels.
It is the fourth of the four Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.. It contains a highly schematic account of the ministry of Jesus, with seven "signs" culminating in the raising of Lazarus (foreshadowing the resurrection of Jesus) and seven "I am" discourses. The gospel's concluding verses set out its purpose, "that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name."
